I just got a job setting up a music tech department for a big music store. They have asked me what equipment I want to stock. It's pretty much a teenage fantasy scenario. I will have to learn and understand all the equipment. So what should I order. What's hot and what will sell? From Behringer to Neve.
DB - don't forget about accessory items, cables, stands, guitar picks, strings, straps, etc. Those are things that most people buy, even if they don't leave with the big ticket items - make sure you get them placed well within the store too (ie. put the big ticket items in the back, and the small "impulse" stuff up fromt). Good luck dude!
Wow, thanks for the ideas. Keep 'em coming. I sometimes start a post and think it's got no attention because I'm in Australia miles away from the majority of Reaper forum goers. I have a had a few ideas from touring musicians. Fully setup road cases for keyboard players. Just open the case and put it on a stand. I'm also going to run some 22" monitors with single VST's on them (like BFD2, Korg MS01, Synthsquad) with the res set to 800x600 so they are big and funky looking. These will have controllers attached to them ready for randoms to tweak. Impulse buys are good. I always like the idea of industrial strength pro USB an Firewire cables, because heaps of gear uses them these days and they are generally flimsy. So I will seek some of them out. A lot of the software I like isn't available in a box. Also, to be honest I can't sell Reaper (or even mention it) even though it's my music tech religion, as there is no profit in it for the shop. It will just have to stay underground a little longer. Maybe I can sell some gear that comes with it. More ideas welcome, Thanks all.

Thanks Manning, good tips. I have just done my first week setting up this audio tech department and got a nice exclusive, MOOG. I will be getting in the Little Phatty II synth and a Theremin for starters. I'm going to make a little gourmet section for the more prestige equipment. I'm also setting up an electronic drum kit to BFD2. On the more budget side, I will be stocking SE microphones. They are a decent price and have some very nice new mics SE4400A and the Neve Ribbon (Ok, that's a bit posh). We also do all the Korg stuff. One of the fav bits of cheap gear is a little USB to mic adapter. It's really very neat. You can monitor with zero latency and can record guitar and +48v condensers. All for US$50 (AU$90) Thanks all, for your feedback.
