We are gearing up for our 2 CD set (because we are idiots and seem to like to punish ourselves) and have a few early mixes coming off the press. There is plenty of work to still do, but this is far enough along... all I can say is thank God for automation lanes.

WOW! These sound very very good, very pro indeed. And good songs too, if this is an indication of the rest of the album i think your band should do really well, at least you deserve to. :) Would you mind sharing the process you used to record / process the bass guitar, you've mannaged to get the bass sound i've been chasing for a long time now and I still haven't worked out how to achieve it. Your bass sound is GREAT!! at least its how I think a bass should sound. Fantastic job Bubbagump Cheers
Bass tone? Err, I do nearly nothing. However, I have gotten a lot of compliments on my bass sound over the past few years. Here is my super secret complicated process. Carvin 5 string active > Radial Jenson DI > LA610 (or maybe Mackie Onyx 800R, doesn't matter, don't remember) > Reaper. From there, the only processing I do is MajorTom> 4:1, Feedback, Auto Make up, shave off about 6-10 db. Maybe some EQ... a little bit of boost (2db or so) at 2-5k or where ever the finger noise/pluck is hanging out and maybe a tad bit of cut (again, 2db or so) at 250-350. Pluck is the major change that I find gives the bass presense personally. I also do a high pass at 40 hz on the master buss which may have something to do with it. Otherwise, thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for posting your super secret bass processing methods :) But seriously I do appreciate it, I'm looking for any way to improve on the bass sound i'm getting ATM. Is that the JS or VST version of MajorTom ? I'm wondering if the Radial Jenson DI might be the missing link in my chain ? I've read somewhere they are good for DI bass. Thanks again Wolffman
Hi Bubba! You know I'm a Slang fan... :) I'll check these out this evening IF my stupid ISP is back up and running. They sent a notice saying they would be doing maintenance in our area yesterday morning for a couple hours... Riiiggghhhhttt... it's still down. D
Excellent. The playing has emotion and dynamics and the singing is good. Very cool indeed. Those mixes sound pretty damn good to me. First Song: Listening on phones but there is a tiny bit of masking going on in the final chorus of the first song, the vox get a bit lost in the guitars. Consider automated eq for those situations, or maybe a sidechained eq that dips into the guitar group a tiny bit (assuming there is a guitar group) when the chorus vox comes in) triggered by the chorus vox in that part. Second Song: I love the vocal tone there on the lead vocal. The singer has a very 'commercial' tone/voice imo. I love the rhythm shift on the chorus here, it changes the feel of the entire song. Overall these songs are very interesting and in parts exciting, very well produced and they never get boring. Well done. Always the tweaker (:)) I would be curious to hear how parallel compression (narrowed to the midrange) would sound on the lead vox.
