...and....I never really thought I'd ask a question about panning, but....when I was using my Roland VS....with real knobs....I liked to pan my rhythm guitars at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock....or sometimes 2 and 10 o'clock..... well....with Reaper just having a little fader and a percentage.....what the hell is 9 and 3. I hear lots of remarks about my hard panned guitars....and sooo....I crank them back.....and still get remarks about it. It doesn't sound ridiculus to me what I'm doing......I started at about 75% each......but now, I'm at about 60%. That isn't that much overkill is it? thanks
I'd rather have knobs than faders for panning, but whatever. 3 o'clock is about 60%, non? 2 o'clock 50%? Hard-panned is 100% l/r. IMO that's not a great solution - it's like maxi-compression in that it sounds great for a while, but 5 years later you wish you could take it off. Also way too easy to create phase problems. Same with OH mics on drums. Meh...I'm off topic again!
Thanks guys!!! Captain......I just don't trust my ears.....they seem to lie to me from time to time.....the bastards. Henge.....yes....you may recommend that....except......I don't know what you mean. What is the name of the plugin....and what do I do with it? And, what does it do?
A shame we can't replace the Pan slider with a knob, or a dual panner thing, yet. When mixing, do a 1000-yard stare when you're twiddling your knobs and sliders. That's one of the reasons I like knob controls and up/down sliders. They're easier to operate then left/right controls, which means they're more tactile and less prone to error. A good device to keep around for precision controls is a trackball.
