directconnect problems, need tips

Hi, I am a long time protools user, and have several systems. I recently thought I'd try a demo of soft samplecell on the 001 system with directconnect. I have two problems. I cannot get the low latency option in ssc to work with ptle 5.1 and also am getting pops and clicks sometimes but not all the time. are you supposed to set the clock in ptle to external in asmuch as it's receiving input from ssc? Also if any of you know what the problem might be with the low lacency issue it would be great as I am using a gtr midi system which already has latency, plus 001 latency, plus ssc latency equals too much latency.
