5.1 Surround with Mac LE

Ok, in very short: 1. buy yourself a Dolby Digital amplifier (not all too expensive) with 6 multichannel inputs 2. Preferably a DVD-payer too (for reference) 3. Hook up 6 channel from PT directly into the amp's multich. inputs or use a mixer with auxilaries/direct i/o's. I use a Yamaha 01V with an Adat board. 4. Use 1 & 2 as FRONT, 3 & 4 as REAR and 5 for CENTER, 6 for SUB. 5. Now you're able to send sounds to discrete channels. Unfortunately, there's no panning/Surround-plugin for LE yet, but no doubt it will come quite soon (PT5.1..) Read all you can get on Dolby's website... Cheers ------------------ Arno Peeters

Although I haven't messed with it yet Logic has surround support now.

I am recording a backing for a performance in 5.1 surround and have been using the discreet inputs on my DD amp for monitoring as Arno Peeters does. I use Pre fade sends for surround panning. It's a bit clumsy, but it works. It would be great to have a DD encoder plugin to generate a 5.1 DD bitstream output for DVD. Surround will only be in PT 5.1, not PTLE 5.1. Mike
