I just ripped and added a subtitle stream to the Maestro project. I compiled the project and all seemed to be working perfectly. When the video is played back "wide" (for a widescreen TV) the subtitles are perfectly aligned towards the bottom of the screen. This is also how it displays in software players like PowerDVD and WinDVD. However, when the video is played back on a 4:3 TV, the "letterbox" mode kicks in (like it should) and the anamorphic image is "squished" to it's correct ratio onscreen. This would be perfect except for the fact that the subtitles are not changing shape with the video. The subtitles seem to be remaining at a 4:3 ratio while the anamorphic video stream is being "squished" to it's proper size. So, what I end up with is subtitles that straddle the black border. Half of the letters are covering the image, and the other half is over the black border. This is more annoying than you might think. Now, I'm aware that one option is to include 2 sets of subtitles on the disc... one properly positioned for "wide" and one properly positioned for "letterboxed", and tell Maestro which stream to use for which playback mode. But, the original DVD I ripped them from only has the one sub stream, and somehow used the same stream for both formats. Is it possible to somehow tell Maestro to reposition the sub stream when playing letterboxed, but keep it normal when displaying wide? If I have to add a second sub stream, I'm going to have to re-encode the video to fit it all on the disc. :( And that doesn't seem like a very efficient method for solving this problem, so I figured I'd post and see if anyone knew anything about this. Thanks in advance!
