can anybody link me to a tutorial or you-tube vid that talks about ways to get quick and dirty drums in Reaper for the sole purpose of just writing music? i'm a drummer so i'd rather just bang out the rhythm rather than code a million midi notes. i'm not looking for anything fantastic, just a beat to help construct a song. i'll go back at a later date and record an acoustic kit. i recently bought the Steve Slate LE package - and know it comes with a KONKAT player VST, but haven't messed with it yet - just the raw WAV samples. also - i think i have an old drum machine around here - but not quite sure how to hook it up to my PC (Reaper) so i can record using it. i'm pretty sure it has midi-out. is there such a thing as a midi-out - to USB connector? any tips would be appreciated. thanks.

anybody? i didn't find anything when searching here (maybe not right keywords) - but did find some good stuff via google). still - would be interested in hearing anything specific about using Slate's v3 Konkat in Reaper. Setup, do's, don'ts, etc.. thanks.
in advance: Sry, no link to a tut / video. For what it's worth let this post count as a helpful bump. Uhm .. you being a drummer wouldn't the quickst and dirtiest way be to just record an OK drum track (or a cpl of loops) yrself? I'm not familiar w the Steven Slate package, sry. But if you really mean quick'n'dirty I'd say: find max 2 1 bar audio drum loops for a tune/song and do the predictable AABA or such and concentrate on the song, chords, melody, dynamics etc. (btw listen to ) (c'mon guys help him. It's friday night and I'm halfway drunk)

thanks, appreciate it. i was able to successfully install and load the Slate kontakt player 2 as a VSTI on one of my tracks. after that i got stumped figuring out just how to record and make sounds with it. not much out there with a "here's how" - and Slate's doc only handles "other" DAWs. i guess it involves a midi-map, but you're right - i'm not gonna sit down for 2 hours to program a few bars when i can play it in 2mins. so... i think i'm going the 'plug my existing drum machine into my computer' and record using that. it'll allow me to just simply play the rhythm quick and dirty. GUITARWHORE(center) has assured me they have a cable that will translate midi->usb so i can record direct to Reaper. i wonder if i couldn't direct each of the midi-channels from the drummachine to a different track in Reaper?? hmmmmm...... that would be interesting because then i could actually replace them using the Slate WAVs. we'll see. won't be able to get the cable until tomorrow... i'll update if i get anywhere notable..
If you are talking about that quick and dirty loopy thing I posted a while back... I toasted it... because, while it was dirty... it was not quick. Perhaps it will see some love in the future. I'd recommend giving a go with what you got! .t
You prolly know this already but, all i do is make up 4 or 5, 1 bar beats in the midi editor. Like intro, main feel, chorus, bridge etc and then just loop them out /place them as you need them. Reagins are good for this as you can moove/copy them quickly. Use the kontack player & SS drums for playback. Save these beats in a folder on your hD for later use. This is how i used to do it before i got jamstix. HTH :) Cheers
