You don't necessarily have to replace a failed pump with a new complete tank sender unit (with pump inside it) from Volvo. A good alternative is a Walbro 255 L/h pump which is a direct in-tank replacement and seems to be able to withstand higher demands than the OEM Bosch unit. A Walbro GSS342 seems to be the ideal choice and goes in place of the stock pump, the only thing being you will need a slightly longer length of fuel hose to make up for the shorter length of the pump itself. FSE Glencoe are a reliable source of Walbro pumps (part no ITP116); please be careful of "genuine imitations" because there's lots out there and I know some people have been sold Walbros which have turned out to be copies.
