i just selected multiangle processing in DVD-Decrypter 3.0.14.0 and selected angle1 to be retained. Ripped the main movie files in file mode (the log window should say that additional angle sectors are being skipped). served with dvd2avi in force film mode and made a simple .avs to wrap it into cce 2.5. then just ran the resulting .mpv thru pulldown -prog_frames p and authored as a single pgc title in scenarist. I think the avg bitrate turned out to be ~3800kbps
in DVD decrypter using IFO mode, just check the angle that corresponds to the main movie (usually angle one) and dont chech the other boxes next to the other angles. Then it will strip out that angle and create new VOB files that you can work with. i did the same thing that wfn1 did and it turned out great.
i'm not 100% on this but i though the extra angles in aotc are credits in different languages... i don't think they have anything to do with subs. unfortunately i no longer have the original to verify this.
Update I have just ripped the vobs again from source with Decrypter set to preserve angle 1 only. Loaded the vobs into SubRip 1.11, it lists 4 English streams. Have set SubRip to extract all 4 streams into separate destination folders, and hey presto - no subtitles detected on any of em. D'oh! wfn1 / jrg Does your rip play correctly with the subtitles showing during the "alien" conversation sequences? What do I try now guys? JF
i did not preserve the subs after i saw that both english streams has close captions in them but subrip 1.11 had no problem finding them. do you have aotc region 1 ntsc? if so it's highly irregular.
wfn1 No I have the PAL R2 version. Could you verify that you do indeed see the narrative subtitles? Things I have thought of: Is it possible that PowerDVD (which I am testing the vobs with) isn't showing the subtitles? Also: just loaded the .ifo into ifoedit v.095 and can see 4 SubPicture English streams listed under the Title Set (Movie). If I double click on the first it says Closed Caption Normal Size, the second and third both say Director Comments Normal Size, and the last says Forced Caption English. Do you think the Forced Caption is the one I need? If so how do I get at it? JF
JF: I think the angle thing stopped working in IFOEdit lately. You need version .932, but it looks like you took care of the angle problem with DVDDecrypter anyway. I'd try Subrip separately on each stream. Also, make sure you copied the sub streams with DVDDecrypter in the first place...
