how can i save the 'plugin on dsp' configuration with the session? on big mixes, when i use all the dsp-power (most of the beams of the system-usage-window are 100% and red) at session startup, my systems just seems to load the plugins from the left to the right tracks. since e.g. the waves and lexiverb plugs only run on specific dsp's it happens that the plugs on the far right tracks often fail to load. working with 5 dsp-cards on lots of tracks it can last 5 to 10 minutes till the session is open (activating, deactivating, reactivating plugins many times), just to see the dialog telling me which plugs have been deactivated. i then have to manually deactivate the plugins and reactivate them in the right sequence (first all waves/lexiverbs, because they only work on specific dsp's then all the others that aren't choosy) especially when having clients in the room i look like an idiot doing that, not to mention the timeloss. is there anything that i've been missing? any help is greatly appreciated!
That's not a bad idea, but I don't think there's a way to do it. You already know about the old "left to right" trick, but that doesn't seem to help you. What version of software are you using? I noticed that this happened less when i started running 5.1.1 with Mix systems, but that could have been my imagination. Since we're using HD now, it hasn't been an issue at all since all of the chips on the cards are identical. I'm sorry I have nothing more informative. My only suggestion would be to make sure you're running the most current software for your system, add more DSP hardware (the mix systems can be maxed out with 7 mix cards and 3 DSP farms), or upgrade to HD. Just be glad you can manually activate and deactivate plugs now. In earlier versions of software, this problem would happen, the plug just wouldn't be there if it couldn't open. That sucked!! Anyway, I hope somebody has some good advise on this. I'd love to hear it.
I have an idea...can you save the session after disabling all the plugs? When you close and start again does it not load any of the plugs (because they are disabled)? If so then before you close the session down for the day, disable all the plugins and save. That way you won't have to wait for 10 minutes the next time you open up the project. You can just open it up quick (cuz none of the plugins are loading) and then enable them in the right order. Wadda ya think? Would it work?
"btw: does anybody know if there is a shortcut for deactivating ALL plugins??" Well you could hold the all button (don't remember which on a keyboard as I use a procontrol)and select all tracks (so they're all lit up)and then choose "make selected tracks inactive".That will leave you with all the tracks off, save a copy of the session like this, then when you open it will be fast and you can just activate tracks in whatever sequence you like.Faster than disabling plugins one at a time. Chris
thanx for the tip, chris i would need to be lucky though. i would need enough 'no waves-plugin'-tracks to reactivate last to solve my problem. it could work for certain sessions.
[QUOTE]Most plugins can only run on A-type chips.[QUOTE] thanx bob for this infos! you say 'most plugins'?? in my setup waves & lexiverb are the exeptions. i use a lot of mcdsp & bombfactory stuff i see it could have get even worse...
