I have a couple of projects on the go at the moment, although not at the same time in Reaper that is, and this problem is occurring with both. (I've v2.55 installed, Windows XP a M-Audio Delta 1010LT, 2GB Ram) Basically, I'm working on the midi parts on both projects and I can be auditioning VST sounds or recording a vst when Reaper just disappears. No warning, no error codes nothing it just vanishes. When I restart Reaper I sometimes get the message that my Delta 1010 Asio driver couldn't be enabled and that my Delta inputs/ outputs couldn't be found. Like I say, this message doesn't always happen as sometimes I can restart Reaper as normal. The upshot is that I lose whatever work hasn't been saved, mainly due to not having the chance to do so. It seems to happen in conjunction with VST's. Any ideas what's going on? Its doing my head in - you can be really into the project and flowing along, then suddenly that all stops, the fire doused, so to speak. I've never had the problem working with mic's or guitars etc by the way.
If you haven't already check the M-audio site for updated drivers? Check you preferences to make sure you have the correct midi device/s enabled as well. If you suspect a VST disable them and then re-tick to see if it's badly behaved one. HTH
Hello bedbug, Can you tell us exactly what you were/are doing when Reaper crashes and disappears? Which VST(i)s were you using in the project? Which VST(i)s were active at the time of the crash? As a guess, A VST(i) is misbehaving and crashing - taking Reaper with it and sometimes leaving the ASIO drivers locked (flagged as being in use, generally only one app can use ASIO at a time) too. Also, in Preferences, turn on the periodic autosave function (to incrementally-timestamped files) - that way you won't lose all your work. HTH
The last time it crashed I was using the Arturia CS-80 but the time before that I was using Absynth 4. On both occasions they were used individually with no other VST's or plugins running. Have just attempted to upgrade to v2.56 but I'm getting an error code asking if there's an internet connection present - so will keep trying. Thanks again
