bad leak in cooling system

Hi guys I seem to be ever busy but thoroughly entertained by the problems with my T5. After replacing the air pipe from the intercooler to the turbo I returned home today and found the green coolant leaking all over the floor. The leak seemed to come from the area around the turbo. Is the turbo water cooled? Any ideas where the leak may come from and how to repair it. Is there a diagram of the cooling system that I could get somewhere. Please help me guys, I really enjoy my Volvo and just love giving it my personal attention. Regards Kreson

Yes the turbo is water cooled, there should be some metal pipes that branch off the main system near the exhaust manifold. the best way i can discribe it is that it's the two small pipes that are not the oil pipes. LOL. Er, well i mean the two that don't return to the sump. I would trace the pipes back up and see where they spring from to see what they carry. If you have not had any turbo work done recently i would say its rare for coolant to leak from the turbo unless there's a problem. Is the coolant coming from a pipe joint or from the turbo area. I would get under the car and determine exactly where it's coming from. Is there any leaking from the coolant cap?

Hi Kresonm, I also have a T5 and also live in SA. Where in SA are u? I have a 2001 V70 and have just discovered that most T5 will have a coolant problem before they hit 150,000kms. I hardly finished my sentence at the agent regarding leaking coolant and they service tech walked my to the 'morgue' at the back of the service centre where he pointed at a S80 and V70 with Rads pulled and ready for replacement. 80% of the time the leak is at the bottom right of the rad. In your case it sounds like a return line or a coolant bottle trickling down the back of your engine? Cheers, Notam
