Immediate, Intimate, Intense Vocal Sound - How?

When it comes to microphones you usually gets what you pays for however I have a cheap Behringer XM8500 SM58 ish clone and for the price they cannot be beaten.With the right EQing etc and treatment they can sound pretty good, Because of their cheap price it's no big risk to buy and try one :) In the UK, USA I've made this little sound bite for you using it through a Toneport GX USB input device with a little compression and verb on from the GX.Near the end you will hear a little distortion as I didn't bother moving away from the mic as I would normally as I have a really annoying for recording powerful voice middle frequencies that can easily bend the Dynamic capsules so vocal techniques have to be applied.

So, not to be a broken record, but I'm sure my last query got buried in the gear talk... what was the example tune already? I'm dyin' to know over here.

Just saw this thread for the first time. Many good ideas here. I liked what Jason said about using compression vs eq on top-end. I do that all the time with dynamic mic. Well, I add some eq as well. Just use xcomp. Adds vx breath to busy mixes IMO. You can also build a cheap portable vocal booth for next to nothing. Don't laugh at the above. Those things really work, lol.
