I just bought a new mobo & processor. I am now the proud owner of an Abit KR7A-Raid and amd athlon 1700+ with 256 MB of DDR pc2100 266Mhz. I get something like 24+7 on the Davec-test, and i am under the impression that that is what it should do. I didnt tweak anything.... btw....my system has a temp of 33c, and cpu at around 50c. Is this ok? But i am presented with a strange problem. Some time ago i purchased a new ibm-desktar 60 GB harddisk. And now my bios (on my old pIII and my abit....!) doesnt recognizes the true size of my harddisk. It only recognizes half of it (33 GB). I have my system on dual-boot, and the ibm install program offers something called a "dynamic frive overlay" to overcome this problem. But when i try to install winxp with this installed, the installer removes it, and then can't access the drive.... Does anyone of you know a solution to this? Thanks...

Check the jumpers to see if you have 32 Gig clip enabled

what did you format the drive with? If you formatted it FAT 32 there are some programs that won't accept drives bigger than 32G. I worked around that problem by formatting FAT32 with my windows 98se disc, and then installing xp over it. The xp setup program doesn't allow you to format fat32 at all. (I'm still trying to figure out why brent DigiTechSupt recomended this)

Yup, formatting in NTFS did the trick. I formatted the drive before in FAT32 to be able to use the drive from within win98. Maybe i will find out soon enough why DigiTechSupt advises FAT32... Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Windows XP setup will let you choose FAT32 or NTFS. For some reason Digi recommends FAT32. NTFS cannot be read by most other operating systems (except 2k and NT). In theory, formatting NTFS and using a larger cluster size should increase the read/write speed over FAT32 where as far as I know the cluster size is fixed. Defragging is worse under NTFS though (takes longer). Steve Moore

I have a dual-boot system with 98SE and XP Home Ed. XP does give you the option to format with Fat32, but I tried it and the 5.3.1 installer would not run. When I used NTFS, the install went fine. Both setups work fine (5.1.1 win98, 5.3.1 winXP), but I noticed some differences. For example, without changing any connections, 5.3.1 does not like to be in ADAT sync mode when hooked up to the DA7 ADAT outputs. It likes to be in internal sync, or it does a lot of clicking. 5.1.1, however, hooked up exactly the same way, likes ADAT sync with the DA7 on internal sync. So, even though I have 5.3.1, I am still tracking with 5.1.1. Hmmmm.... Sean
