I have these fitted to my 1991 SE. How are they supposed to be operated? The handbook says press the switch once for on, another for off (it's a rocker switch that is sprung so it returns back to the 'off' position once pressed). However, mine don't switch off once you've switched them on! After about twenty minutes they go off, but I don't think this is right? Plus the drivers side one doesn't even work anymore and I can't find out why. Any thoughts? David
If the rocker is operating with a push on/push off method it sounds like a relay problem. I haven't seen the wiring diagram for these yet. If anyone has one I'd be interested to know as well as I have just acquired a heated mirror and want to wire it in. Mike
My 1992 240 SE has electric heated mirrors, one works and if i remember right once switched on it stays on until it decides to switch off, check it out tomorrow as car is parked at my place of work, the one that doesn't work i got off of a "G"reg 240 but the colour and amount of wires were different, yet to sort this out.:confused2:

On a G reg its likely not to be a heated one. The non heated has 4 wires and a round plug. The heated ones have five wires and a straight connector. Mike
My 1991 240SE has these fitted. The switch goes on but not off. It does if you turn ignition off. Perhaps this is how they were meant to work or we are just identifying another of those foibles of 240s which will become a recurrent thread on here.

This is how they are supposed to work. Press switch to turn on, relay /timer will stay operated for about 20 minutes then switch itself off. However if ignition turned off, relay will release back to normal condition. To operate again, just press switch again & timing period will re commence. ps Doug, are you coming to Nottingham meeting tomorrow 7th. regards, Richard VOC 3801
My '92 SE has the same - you press the switch and it springs back into the off position, but lights up and the mirrors come on. I tried changing the switch for a spare heated rear window one to see if it was the switch, but while this could be put in either position it made no difference to the mirrors, once they had been switched on they stayed on regardless of the switch position. On my short drive to work they stay on all the way, on a longer drive I have noticed as above that they switch off after a while. My passenger side one has stopped working which is a pain on these cold mornings as I have got lazy about clearing mirrors by hand
Would anyone happen to know where the relay is located for the heated side mirrors on a '92 240 GL? Mine's broken and I've spent about 5 hours tearing apart the dash to find it and couldn't. Thanks
