Poor quantizing?

Hello there, first time poster here. I've just DL'd Reaper as i'm looking for a cheap MIDI sequencer driving my mainly 1990s synth/sampler set up. I've got the tracks etc all set up while I've been having a play, and while I really like what I'm seeing so far, creating just a very simple drum sequence sounds awful; the quantizing is out, even though every option I can find is saying that I'm sequencing a simple 16-beat rhythm and it sounds horrific, as if there's no quantizing or 'locked grids' for entering notes into I'm wondering whether this might be: a. a laptop issue b. what you get for a $50 sequencer c. (hopefully) a setting I am not checking or have missed Any advice?

you might be doing something wrong - it works fine here. 1. check out the snap-to options and grid size (magnet and grid icons in toolbar - can right-click for more options) 2. go into the midi editor and quantize there (select the notes you want to quantize, hit Q)

All seems to be fine, as in I can play with the quantizing settings and get it very out of time, but then adjusting the positions to ones which should be nicely perfect still eaves me with imperfect quantising I wonder if the USB MIDI interface is the problem?

it might just be latency issues - have a hunt through the forum for tweaking latency/sound card/midi drivers. i think there are some sticky threads, read around (it works fine for everyone - might just be a config issue)
