Thank you! I am running a real time processor utilization meter as I play back a track in Reaper (using Bandstand on several midi tracks), and the meter is showing close to 100% usage as the track plays. My fear is that this is a Via processor issue, and that no matter how many tweaks I make the processor will simply not be able to handle real time audio recording. I am going to try using a GM soundfont to see if maybe that might be less taxing on the CPU.

methinks you are asking too much of your poor pooters processor with the type and amount of plug in processing you are asking of it. try rendering the sounds you want one at a time to audio and composing with less processor hungry plug ins.

Readyboost can speed up things if you use the same files (medium to large size files) over and over again like system files. I you use a lot of small files and have a lot of I/O, readyboost WILL slow things down significantly since no USB drive in existence can compare to RAM. Another important note, readyboost requires more CPU cycle/cache than a pc with readyboost off. So, readyboost can't compensate an anemic CPU with not enough cache.
