Hi, Has anyone tried Reaper on the netbook-style laptops i.e. the ones using Intel's Atom processor, for example the Samsung NC10? I was thinking that since they are smaller and lighter than normal laptops they would be the ideal small music workstation for capturing ideas, making quick demos etc. Obviously the performance wouldn't be great but if it could run a few tracks with VST instruments and maybe one or two audio tracks that would be enough. Anyone tried them? Regards, Kari

I'm interested in this subject as well. I recently got a Samsung NC-10 to use as a compact PC for email and the like. I've upgraded it to 2GB and I don't intend to use it as my main recording tool. For that I have a quad-core box, which I'm quite happy with. I use Cubase on my main setup, but I'm not locked into that software. What I would like to do is simple capture of at least two tracks (mics or line in.) No special effect, no nothing, only capture. I can do all the trickery on my main setup. My input device is currently a Presonus Firebox, so that is right out because it uses Firewire. I've downloaded Reaper and it seams to run fine on the netbook using some test wav files recorded on my main box. No matter what becomes of this experiment, I intend to purchase Reaper because, for the price, why not support it? What I want to do next is hook up a USB device and see what happens during capture. Any thoughts would be appreciated. If the doesn't work out, no big deal because I can always use a portable recorder. Thanks in advance, Wayne

"Preliminary tests" shows good signs, using a dreadfully slow Acer 531h, recording at 24/48 using pod xt live and portable Reaper 3.04 on a USB-stick. My usual goto virtual analogs from TAL fall apart pretty fast, but rendering takes care of that. Recording through the built in mic using asio4all works too, but man, does it sound crap with HDD clicking and all.
