thought I'd ask for your 2 cents on this guys..I'm about to master my first 001 project at a legit mastering house...(i've mastered several indie records done on adats tho')and my question is THIS..the sessions are all 24 bit /48k- I will stay in 44.1 from now on- but bounce to disk doesnt sound good enough cause of the sample rate conversion..I have an apogge rosetta and a HHB burner SO..would you : A) come out the main outs into the apogee and then into the HHB? thus eliminating any sample rate conversion.. OR B) Bounce to disk the mixes at the 24 bit/48 rate- using SDII files- and let them do any / all conversion in Sonic Solutions at mastering..? If anyone has personal experience, I'd appreciate it..doing it BOTH ways is time consuming PLUS I'd just like to tap into your experience as well..thanks

Definitely solution B. Don't apply any processing to the master (compression, "finalization", EQ, normalization...): just a plain and simple bounce to disk at 24/48k, with no "convert after bounce" or dither on the master fader. Bring at least two CDRs with your mixed material to the mastering house, just in case... I've done lots of mastering for clients, and that procedure is the one that yields the best results. Didier

I concur with plan B. Also, consider doing 2 or 3 different mixes, with the vocals or main instrument(if it is instrumental) both up and down 2db from the original mix. gives you options at the final stage. Good Luck!!
