Having purchased a s80 2.4 Diesel last week i noticed i was getting smoke coming from exhaust while driving, I then checked the oil and the engine had been over filled by at least 1.5ltrs and the transmission oil had double the amount of oil that it should have had in it, i checked the service record and it shows its been serviced, I have now dropped all the oils and refilled to the correct level and serviced it myself which seems to have stopped the smoking problem but when i give it some welly i.e kick down it gives a rather large plume of smoke is this normal on diesels? power is not affected and it goes like stink.
Hi, Most diesels I have been behind give that puff of black smoke when welling the accelerator.. I assume that it would be similar for most of them.. Des. . . ;)
Thanks des, Ive not had a diesel before so it's a bit worrying when you see it. Coupled with the over filling it's not what you like to see in the rear mirror. Pete
I used to have a hilux surf and the black smoke was stoped by disconecting the EGR (exhaust gas regulator) and blocking the end of the pipe. Does anyone know where the EGR is on the S80 (2002 model)
