v70 T5 1999 - Coolant light is staying on

Does any one have any checks/tips etc. I can do to try and find the fault, I have check the oil and water levels etc. and both seem fine, could it be a faulty sensor? or is there something I have missed or not thought about (most probable)? Cheers anyway Sheep

if your coolant lites staying on with the level ok id say its the sensor without doubt (barring a wiring problem) remove it and check its not sticking in the on posn if you can get hold of a multi meter you can quickly check the operation of the switch

The sensor is a simple float and read switch in the coolant bottle Often the wiring to the sensor is torn out of the bottom of the coolant bottle when it is removed from the car, for a cam belt change for example. Some kind mechanic in a Volvo garage did this to mine. The same kind person joined the wires together to stop the light comming on. I have not bothered to fix it. If you unplug the sensor and short the contacts with a piece of wire that should get rid of the light. You will then have to go to the bother of opening the bonnet and check the level regularly of course:)
