Haynes Manuals

Whilst reading a post the other day I noted that someone was complaining about the quality of Hayned manuals stating that they were American in origin these days and were scimpy on detail. This set me to thinking - I seem to remember the first Haynes manuals I had for cars like Austin Allegros etc (stop laughing!) were more user friendly and detailed - for instance I distinctly remember a trouble shooting guide to each section. Any ideas on this anyone?

Maybe a lot of people are now to lazy to actually do repairs, so they'll buy a Haynes manual "Just in case" or to proove that they're going to fix their car one day when it goes wrong. ...Maybe... Strange I have a 740 / 760 manual but not a 106 manual and thats what I drive a Pug 106. I also have a non Haynes manaul for a Mini and a Halfords one for a BMW 3 series.

Hi, I had (may still have) a haynes for the 240... Decent wiring diagrams and paper quality was good (it could stand a bit of greece and oil!).. Got one for the 740 and the paper quality was deplorable, wiring diagrams we next to useless. Cheap and nasty was my impression. They don't do one for the V90, and I wouldn't buy it if they did. Des. . . ;)

So if the modern Haynes are not that good - are there any alternatives?
