I've been really interested in building a tube pre, but Hamptone is out of my price range right now. Maybe next year after tax day...

hi all my home system amps are all valve (tube to some of you) home builds there are some pics on my myspace site... don't understand ICs so i've never used them like LCipher i have boxes of valves and chokes and resistors and caps etc.. i haven't got to the speakers yet i'm saving for the bits for this next: i may redesign the output stage the transformers are more expensive than a balanced valve stage looking at how to introduce a controllable distortion into the equation... dave

I've built some SCA preamps too: N72 & J99. I combined them with a DI kit from JLM (SCA wasn't selling DI's at that time) into some custom chassis. Pics on They sound really great. Used the N72 for kick, snare and bass guitar DI, J99 is great on (ribbon) overheads... Have done some other DIY: gainclone amp, another mic preamp, speakers, guitar stomps... Still thinking about a DIY compressor. If anybody here has some experience with a kit or schematic, I'd be very interested. Eddy
