I think the feature set is great - I would like to see Cockos work on nitpicks before new features for a little bit... and +1 to polishing off the mac version!
I am looking forward to next set of new features, hope it's as impressive as the last. But I am eager for 3 to be finished, apart from a few minor things I would still like to see in Reaper, the feature set means I can really create music the way I want to. Big thanks to the Cockos team.
I voted #3 no deadline. I am thinking that at this rate (nearly 4 months and still in alpha), we will be well into late 2009 or 2010 before we will see an official v3.0 release update. Which means we can continue to use pre-v3.0 free of charge. :D PS: Of course, I am being facetious here! But hey, what is the hurry when you can have your cake and eat it too! Cheers, Billy Buck
I went with Option #3. As much as I appreciate the many cool features in REAPER, there's no way I would switch from SONAR at this point, given the difference in MIDI implementation/features. -Susan
Swinging over from other DAWs is what many of us do(how many I wouldn't know). I'm in a similar situation to Susan. Most things work, some don't work well enough. A great deal of my necessities are being met fantastically. I did vote #3, because there are things I could do with that aren't there yet, as I state quite openly sometimes. What I realize however is that development won't stop at 3.0. It's just another number with a bunch of advancements that goes along with it. So if 3.0 is locked down in the next days/weeks, I won't complain. I'll just post the FRs like I always do, and push for things most useful to my kind of work. Some of us are very experienced at that, so while we wait patiently for another pleasant surprise of a release, sometimes blissfully ignorant of how flabbergasted the folks who didn't test the alphas are going to be, we also take in a new development style that isn't really that new. The plan was rarely layed out by the developers. They never did answer a lot of question of about where Reaper is heading in this or that area at what time. Same old with a little less developer presence, and I'm still enjoying the ride and happily spending money on my Reaper license.
On reflection, I think that conducting this survey was a bit presumptuous. How about a survey in the FR section to let people vote on what FR they wish for the most. Maybe one survey for MIDI, one for Audio editing, one Mixing. That would actually provide Cockos with some useful info about what users are craving.
I trust the wisdom of the gods of Reaper. I think they are trying everything then seeing what settles. This is a cool way to work. Reaper 3 will be a immensely more mature product that will defeat the naysayers. I do not think Justin would let Reaper become bloatware, it's not his style.
